Air, Soil and Water Research call for papers from Dr Carlos Alberto Martinez-Huitle

General call for papers (scroll down for 2010 special issue)

Dear authors,

We wish to invite you to submit a manuscript to Air, Soil and Water Research. The journal covers all aspects of environmental fields and we welcome manuscripts from all related disciplines. Also, it aims to promote the vital interconnection between the environment and human health.

Air, Soil and Water Research presents objective reports and analyses of the major advances, trends, and challenges in environmental science, technology, and policy for a diverse professional audience. The journal seeks to publish papers that are particularly significant and original.

The open access journal is growing in recognition for rapid publication of new research related to all aspects of research into soil, air and water. Therefore, we hope you will consider submitting your manuscript to us and we encourage you to read the papers already published in Air, Soil and Water Research.

What is the advantage to you of publishing in Air, Soil and Water Research?

  • Full open access: everyone can read your article and you retain copyright in it
  • Publishing decision within 2 weeks of submission
  • Your paper will not be rejected due to lack of space and will be published immediately on acceptance
  • Prompt and fair peer review from two expert peer reviewers
  • Frequent updates on your paper’s status
  • Friendly responsive staff
Aims and scope:

Air, Soil and Water Research is a journal that publishes papers in all areas of air, soil and water research.

What a previous author said:
"I would like to say that this is the most author-friendly editing process I have experienced in over 150 publications. Thank you most sincerely."

In summary:

The advantages of a younger journal such as Air, Soil and Water Research are numerous but in essence allow us a greater flexibility and responsiveness to authors and readers that older journals cannot match.

Yours sincerely,
Dr Carlos Alberto Martinez-Huitle

2010 special issue call for papers

Dear colleagues,

I invite you to submit a paper to the forthcoming special issue of Air, Soil and Water Research.

About the special issue

This special issue of Air, Soil and Water Research entitled “Alternative decontamination processes for air, soil and water environmental protection” consists of high quality papers that present and discuss timely research, concerning the application of alternative technologies for water, wastewater, soil and air treatment and remediation.

Alternative decontamination processes constitutes a suitable technology for environmental remediation relying upon the intermediacy of chemical initiators (i.e., free radicals) and energy (i.e., heat) to destroy target pollutants found in water, wastewaters, soil and air. Alternative decontamination processes include ozonation, UV irradiation, photocatalysis, sonolysis, the Fenton and photo-Fenton reagent, electrochemical oxidation, wet air oxidation as well as various combinations of the above. These may be used either for the complete mineralization of all pollutants to carbon dioxide, water and mineral salts or for the selective removal of the more bioresistant pollutants and their conversion to biodegradable intermediates.

Specific topics of interest include:

  • Environmental fate studies including transport, biodegradation, bio-accumulation and/or deposition as well as atmospheric (photo)chemical processes, hydrolysis, adsorption/desorption.

  • Soil and water chemistry focussed on interaction, degradation and speciation aspects of environmental contaminants.

  • Novel environmental analytical methods including case studies.

  • Phytoremediation employing new strategies, findings or interpretations of general interest.

  • Development and application of environmental modelling and quantitative structure-activity relationships to study fate and environmental dynamics.

  • Monitoring studies presenting new strategies, report of novel contaminants, findings or interpretations of general interest for an international readership. Monitoring studies based on standard methodology, and of regional importance, are not considered. Studies dealing only with nutrients in agricultural ecosystems are not considered.

  • Treatment processes for water and wastewaters, municipal, agricultural and industrial, including residuals management.

  • Water quality standards and the analysis, monitoring and assessment of water quality by chemical, physical and biological methods.

  • Solid and hazardous waste management, including source characterization and the effects and control of leachates and gaseous emissions.

  • Environmental restoration, including soil and groundwater remediation.

  • Analysis of the interfaces between sediments and water, and water/atmosphere interactions.

  • Public health and risk assessment.
Deadlines
  • Registration of manuscripts: 1 May 2010

  • Manuscripts submitted: 1 June 2010

  • Completion of peer review: circa 1 July 2010

  • Resubmission of revised manuscripts: circa 1 September 2010
