Dr Ashley Croft is a Consultant in Public Health Medicine at the Medical Branch of Headquarters 5th Division in Shrewsbury, UK. He is also a Visiting Fellow at the Effective Health Care Consortium at Liverpool University. Previously he has been Director of Public Health of the HQ British Forces Germany Health Service, and Consultant Public Health Physician at the Surgeon General’s Department and the Defense Secondary Care Agency, London. He has worked in Bosnia, Croatia and more recently Afghanistan as a NATO Public Health Advisor, and has served in various roles as a Medical Officer and Lecturer in the Army Medical Service and Army Medical College. He was educated at Madrid, Oxford and London Universities, and holds postgraduate qualifications from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and from the Society of Apothecaries, London.
Dr Croft is the recipient of a number of scientific honours including the 2006 Royal Society of Medicine Essay Prize, the North Persian Forces Memorial Prize, the Parkes Memorial Prize, the Alexander Memorial Prize and the NATO Medal. He has published over 60 articles, chapters, letters and reviews in leading international journals. His interests include tropical and military medicine.
