About Libertas Academica
Libertas Academica is the publisher of 87 international, peer reviewed scientific, technical and medical journals. 81 operate under the open access business model using a CC-BY-NC license for published articles and the others are pay-per-view or subscription access only. Learn more about copyright and authors' and readers' rights here.
We also operate an article reprints service offering both short-run printed reprints for consumers and a range of services for the pharmaceutical and medical communications industries.
Publishing support services including manuscript editing and figure creation and re-drawing services are also offered. All journals offer a flexible and competitive supplement publishing service.
Libertas is currently developing a book publishing venture due to launch in 2013.
Professional Associations
Libertas is a member of ALPSP, IPG, COPE, IDPF, UKSG, and most journals appear in DOAJ. We also contribute to CrossCheck plagiarism detection and CrossRef, the scholarly DOI linking organisation. Libertas is also a HINARI Publisher Partner.
All of Libertas' content is archived by CLOCKSS, which provides permanent archiving for electronic scholarly journals, as well as the LOCKSS and NDHA initiatives. Libertas is a Project Counter registered vendor and visibility statistics are calculated using its Code of Practice R3.
Innovation and Author Service
We aim to provide a high-quality service to authors combining responsive, professional service by our staff and contractors with innovative industry-leading services such as our article metrics system.
Ethics and Peer Review
Libertas journals apply ICMJE URM (International Council of Medical Journal Editors Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts). Libertas also applies the COPE Code of Conduct for Journal Publishers and the International Association of Scientific, Technical & Medical Publishers Code of Conduct.
All articles are subject to blind peer review and editorial decisions are made by independent editors in chief or associate editors. In the open access business model many editorial decisions result in a fee payment to the publisher. Because of this we maintain a strict distinction between editorial decisions, made by editors in chief or associate editors, and business decisions. Libertas never makes editorial decisions. Editorial decision makers receive no incentives to make decisions leading to fee payments.
Principles of operation
We recognise that authors increasingly require publication services that combine efficient processing, high editorial standards and open access to their published research. To this we add high standards of author service.
In many areas the needs of authors and readers overlap. We also provide services specifically for readers such as high quality RSS feeds, a range of referencing and other metadata services, and a wide selection of new article notification services.
