Libertas Academica
Libertas Academica is the publisher of 87 peer reviewed medical and scientific journals. 81 are open access and 6 are pay-per-view or subscription only. Libertas also provides reprints, supplement publication, figure creation and re-drawing and manuscript editing. Book and event promotion services are under development for launch in 2012. Libertas was founded in 2005.
Libertas aims to address two implicit causes for the rising popularity of open access. We recognise the central importance of authors and readers in scholarly discourse by providing them with a high level of service above industry standards, and conduct regular research to assess our performance.
We also make authors' works as widely visible as possible, through traditional channels like indexes and databases and also through innovative internet-based channels including social media.
On its own open access is only part of the solution to the problems faced by authors in publishing their work. Libertas aims to combine open access with services that recognise the primacy of authors and readers in scholarly discourse. We acknowledge the central importance in scholarly discourse of objective, thorough and prompt peer review and editorial decision-making.
Libertas is a member of ALPSP, COPE, IDPF, UKSG, CrossCheck and CrossRef, the scholarly DOI linking organisation. Libertas is also a HINARI Publisher Partner. All of Libertas' content is archived by CLOCKSS, which provides permanent archiving for electronic scholarly journals, as well as the LOCKSS and NDHA initiatives. Libertas is a Project Counter registered vendor and visibility statistics are calculated using its Code of Practice R3. Libertas journals apply ICMJE URM (International Council of Medical Journal Editors Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts.)
