What is Libertas Academica?
Libertas Academica was established in 2005 as a publisher of open access journals in response to concerns of authors that many existing open access publishers had adopted the out-dated, slow, bureaucratic methods of older publishers.
Libertas operates on the following principles:
Long-term sustainability derived from operating on a professional commercial basis
With the aim of protecting and promoting the free flow of scientific information
Prompt, professional service to authors
Editorial independence and prompt decision-making
An on-going effort to strengthen visibility for articles
We seek and act on feedback from authors, readers and editorial contributors
Literally translated, the name means 'freedom to scholars'.
Libertas develops and continually refines its own custom-built editorial and production system. Because our system is developed in-house we are not tied to the 'one-size-its-all' approach of other open access publishers' off-the-shelf systems.
