Bioinformatics and Biology Insights call for papers
General call for papers (scroll down for 2010 special issue)
On behalf of the Editorial board I invite you to submit your next article to Bioinformatics and Biology Insights, an open access electronic journal published by Libertas Academica.
The main goal of the journal is to publish high quality papers, which foster the scope of bioinformatics for biological applications and increase the accessibility for biologists.
Accordingly, the journal not only publishes peer reviewed Original Research Reviews, Commentaries, Methodology articles and Short Reports. We are also happy to accommodate Meeting Reports, Turorials, Hyptheses and Short Letters.
What is the advantage to you of publishing in Bioinformatics and Biology Insights?
- Full open access: everyone can read your article and you retain copyright in it
- Publishing decision within 2 weeks of submission
- Your paper will not be rejected due to lack of space and will be published immediately on acceptance
- Prompt and fair peer review from two expert peer reviewers
- Frequent updates on your paper’s status
- Friendly responsive staff
Bioinformatics and Biology Insights is a journal that publishes papers in computational biology, particularly computational methods used in the analysis and annotation of structures..
What a previous author said:
"The publishing process of this journal was a most pleasant and productive experience. I was particularly impressed with the regular updates of the progress of my submission. Many other journals receive a submission and authors may not hear anything for months. I appreciate your notification policy."
In summary:
The advantages of a younger journal such as Bioinformatics and Biology Insights are numerous but in essence allow us a greater flexibility and responsiveness to authors and readers that older journals cannot match.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Erich Bornberg-Bauer

2010 special issue call for papers
Dear colleagues,
I invite you to submit a paper to the forthcoming special issue of Bioinformatics and Biology Insights.
About the special issue
“Next Generation Sequencing,” (NGS) has, once again, accelerated pace of data generation: unprecedented quantitites of data are generated with relative simplicity, at ever decreasing costs. Terrabyte of raw data are generated within hours at minimal costs and the new techniques are set to aid genome sequencing, transcriptomic profiling, SNP detection, metagenomic analyses and many other tasks.
All projects, however, seem to suffer from similar bottlenecks: bioinformatics personnel and technology. New algorithms are required for rapid processing, assembly, error correction, profile comparison, SNP detection and so forth.
Ultimately, it is still unclear how the mass of data will be best converted into biological insights: will NGS complement or even replace Sanger technology, qPCR or microrarrays or all of these?
Or will NGS be replaced in the near future by yet another technology?
Acordingly, this call for papers encourages, but is not limited to the following subjects:
- NGS technologies: How do they work, how do they compare
- Practical issues of sampling probes
- Assembly programmes: how do they work? Do they work for NGS data?
- A comparison of assembly programs: Scope, demands, performance
- De novo sequencing of bacteria using NGS
- Mapping reads on existing eukaryotic backbone genomes
- De novo sequencing of eukaryotes using NGS: the distant shore?
- Quality of transcription profiling: comparison to qPCR, EST, microarrays; consistency and base call accuracy; comparison between technologies
- Methods for differential expression analysis
- Genome analysis w/ NGS: detecting and distinbuishing repeats, CNVs, paralogs, isoforms
- Analysing NGS data for evolutionary ecology: SNP detection, SSRs etc.
- Data management, analysis pipelines and visualisation of NGS data
- Case studies
- Prospects: future developments of technology and costs
- From information to knowledge: biological insights gained
Deadlines
- Registration of manuscripts: 1 May 2010
- Manuscripts submitted: 1 May to 1 June 2010
- Completion of peer review: circa 1 July 2010
- Resubmission of revised manuscripts: circa 1 September 2010
To register your manuscript visit this page. All manuscripts are subject to approval by the Editor in Chief.
Article processing fees
Submissions are welcomed from individuals not on the editorial board. An article processing fee will be charged in recognition of the journal’s open access status.
Editorial board members are encouraged to use their APF waiver or discount.
General call for papers
A general call for papers was recently announced. I continue to welcome submissions to the general volume. Manuscripts may be submitted at any time.
