As an open access publisher Libertas charges authors article processing fees (APFs).
Fairness and Clarity
Our APFs are designed to be transparent and fair. Authors are always charged the fee quoted here when their paper was submitted. When they submit their paper all corresponding authors are asked to confirm their awareness of the applicable APF.
APFs are the only compulsory fee: there are no additional fees for excess words, pages, tables, or figures.
APFs and Editorial Ethics
Because decisions to accept papers for publication result in an APF payment we maintain a rigid division between editorial decisions, made by an editor in chief or associate editor, and business decisions made by the publisher. Under no circumstances does the publisher make editorial decisions and editorial decision makers receive no incentives from the publisher to accept papers for publication.
When and How to Pay?
APFs are charged when each paper is approved for publication by the journal's editor in chief or associate editor.
Payment is accepted by bank funds transfer, check or credit card (Visa or Mastercard). Authors should discuss any special payment needs with us.

Discounts and Waivers
We offer several types of discount:
Discounts for authors working in developing countries: where available these are offered automatically upon submission. The author must confirm acceptance of the discount before manuscript processing commences.
Full waivers: to request a full waiver you must contact us before you submit your paper. To allow us to manage high demand for available waivers they may not be applied for after submission. Authors working in developing countries are given preference when allocating available waivers. Authors must receive an email confirming acceptance before submitting their paper.
Discounts for former authors: authors who have published a paper in the previous 12 months in any Libertas journal are eligible for a 20% discount on the standard APF for their next submission to any Libertas journal. Authors must register here and receive an email confirming acceptance before submitting their paper. Application processing takes no more than one working day.
Discounts for peer reviewers: peer reviewers who have completed a peer review in the previous 3 months are eligible for a 20% discount on the standard APF for their next submission to any Libertas journal. Peer reviewers must register using the URL provided in our email that confirmed receipt of your peer review and receive an email confirming acceptance before submitting their paper. Application processing takes no more than one working day.
Editors in chief, associate editors, and editorial board members may request waivers or 20% discounts but must contact us to confirm availability and receive an email confirming acceptance before submitting their paper.
Volume discounts: if you or a group of colleagues are planning to submit a large quantity of papers over a defined period contact us to determine whether a volume discount is available.

Important notes:
Discounts and waivers are given at the publisher's sole discretion and are subject to availability.
Multiple discounts cannot be combined on a single submission: where multiple discounts are applicable the discount most favourable to the author will be applied and the others will be invalidated.
